Kea is a quite large island, the nearest island to Attica area, also called the "gate" of the Cyclades. From the port of Lavrio town (South-east of Attica) it is only 16 nautical miles, so ferry takes not more than 1 hour. Apart from lush hills and sparkling springs, Kea or Tzia has perfect beaches with golden sand and tamarisk trees for shade. Be prepared when going to the beaches in Kea. Along the southwestern coast are some beautiful Kea beaches that are worth visiting, including Pisses, Kastelakia, Koundouros, Liparo and Lygia.
Other Kea beaches on the southern tip of the island can be accessed by boat. You can rent a boat for the day and go to Agios Philippos, Kaliskia, Schinos Bay and Platis Gialos.
Organize a small voyage from the port of Piraeus, which is just 30 minutes ' drive from the centre of Athens. Several times a day there are ferries departing to the nearby Islands: Aegina, Hydra, Poros or Kea. Just 30-50 minutes, and you will find yourself in a completely different, Greece, with its small villages, narrow streets, but always hospitable taverns and coffee houses.
